Anti-inflammatory Papaya Smoothie
During my Adrenal Fatigue recovery I had to eliminate fruit from my diet (due to insulin resistance) for what seemed an eternity. Over the past six months I've slowly started reintroducing low-glycemic fruits such as berries and now (finally!!) my beloved Papaya! Not only do I love the flavor of this tropical fruit but i also enjoy all of its wonderful nutritional properties! Say hello to gorgeous glowing skin, a healthy digestive tract and strengthened immune system.
Papaya contains a special digestive enzyme called papain, which is why it is most known to be a powerful digestive aid. This beautiful tropical fruit can also reduce inflammation, purify the blood, and much more. Papayas are also high in multiple vitamins, minerals, flavonoids, and antioxidants.
Papaya’s biggest nutritional benefit is that it is high in vitamin C. This makes it a high antioxidant food. As with most orange and yellow fruits and vegetables, it is high in vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene, a precursor to vitamin A commonly found in plants.
Papaya is also rich in folate, a necessary B-vitamin for DNA formation. It is also high in other B vitamins such as B6 and pantothenic acid.
Papaya also provides critical minerals such as potassium and magnesium, which help maintain bone health, fluid regulation and the control of blood pressure. Magnesium also helps with stress reduction (hello adrenal fatigue!). Papaya contains antioxidants that help fight free radical damage and may help decrease the effects of aging.
Eating papaya can help to prevent constipation due to its high fiber content. Papain has also been shown to help reduce inflammation thus naturally slowing aging.
Papain, since it is able to breakdown proteins, may be able to help attack the protective coating found on cancer cells, preventing their growth. Vitamin C and beta-carotene, both of which are high in papaya, have been linked to a decreased risk of cancer, especially colon cancer. Fiber can also help reduce the amount of cancer-causing toxins in the digestive system and papaya provides almost 7 grams per serving.
Because of its high antioxidant and anti parasitic properties, papaya also makes an excellent addition to a regular detox or cleanse that can further boost immunity.
With no further ado, here is my Anti-inflammatory Smoothie Recipe. Perfect for the Summer months to help our skin repair after sun exposure.
