Hi.

Welcome to my blog. Here I document my adventures in travel, food and wellness. Hope you have a nice stay!

Daily Detox: Dry Skin Brushing

Daily Detox: Dry Skin Brushing

It’s easy to forget that our skin is our largest organ and it plays an important role in the detoxification process.  Dry brushing helps activate the lymphatic system, the fluid that circulates in the body just under the skin, carrying nutrients and filtering toxins.  Ideally one should do this every day for about 5 minutes prior to taking a shower, when your skin is dry.  Start at the end of your limbs and brush towards your heart.  Massage your stomach in a clockwise motion.

Need more reasons to convince you to do this on a daily basis?  Dry skin brushing removes layers of dead skin, helps keep your pores unclogged, strengthens the immune system, and decreases cellulite (I got your attention now!). Avoid using synthetic bristles as they are too harsh and can damage the skin. Look for a natural bristle brush.  When I travel I pack my hand mitt loofah, because consistency is key!

For extra oomph, I like to add a drop of Cypress, Grapefruit or Zendocrine doTerra Essential Oils to my dry brush for extra detoxifying support. Cypress will help increase circulation. Grapefruit and Zendocrine are wonderful detoxifying oils.
